Early Life
Illya “Yatoro” Mulyarchuk was born on March 12, 2003, in Ukraine. He discovered Dota 2 at a young age, initially playing casually with friends. He developed a deep passion for competitive play as he spent more time in the game.
Unlike many other pro players, Yatoro did not have a traditional esports upbringing. He was mostly self-taught, grinding ranked games extensively and refining his mechanical skills. His journey began in local internet cafés, where he honed his abilities and gained recognition in the high-MMR scene.
Career
Yatoro’s first taste of competitive Dota came in 2019 when he reached 9000 MMR, putting him among the highest-ranked players in Europe. His exceptional individual skill caught the attention of smaller teams, and he soon began playing in amateur tournaments.
His breakthrough came in late 2020 when he joined Yellow Submarine, a mix of talented but relatively unknown players. Despite being an underdog team, they showed promise in various online qualifiers. His standout performances, particularly on heroes like Morphling and Juggernaut, made him one of the most exciting young talents in the region.
Team Spirit
At the end of 2020, Yellow Submarine’s roster was signed by Team Spirit, marking the beginning of Yatoro’s rise to international stardom. As the team’s primary carry, he quickly gained a reputation for his incredible hero versatility, often playing a different hero every game while maintaining high impact.
In 2021, Team Spirit steadily improved, qualifying for The International 10 (TI10) through the regional qualifiers. Yatoro’s performance at TI10 was nothing short of legendary—he played 14 different heroes throughout the event and delivered clutch performances in key matches. His dominance in the grand finals against PSG.LGD, including a flawless Anti-Mage game, helped Team Spirit secure their first TI championship.
The International Victory
After winning TI10, Yatoro cemented himself as one of the best carry players in the world. In 2023, he played a crucial role in Team Spirit’s victories at Riyadh Masters and DreamLeague Season 21, proving that their TI10 win was no fluke.
At The International 12 (TI12), Team Spirit once again dominated the competition. Yatoro’s Naga Siren and Terrorblade performances in the later stages of the tournament showcased his ability to carry games under immense pressure. Team Spirit defeated Gaimin Gladiators in the grand finals, making Yatoro a two-time TI champion—a feat achieved only by OG and his teammates.
Playstyle
Yatoro is renowned for his unmatched hero pool, mechanical skill, and adaptability. Unlike most carry players who specialize in a few comfort heroes, Yatoro thrives on playing a wide variety of heroes, making him unpredictable and difficult to counter. His ability to perform under pressure in the biggest tournaments has solidified his status as one of the greatest carries in Dota 2 history. (aka: Yatoro the GOAT)
Interesting facts about Yatoro
He changed his nickname from Yatoro to Raddan which gained huge backlash from CIS DOTA community. People were speculating that the reason for Team Spirit’s failures was the nickname. (Actually, I also think that Yatoro has a different aura tbh) Surely, he changed it back to Yatoro. He is just 21 years old, and he is already a legend.
